Using the GRI’s new discovery system

HANDY TIPS

In order to request volumes from a run of journals or boxes from a large archive, sign in, go to the Request tab, and choose the set that includes the first-desired volume or box. Choose the volume or box number from the Volume drop-down box, click on the Filter button, click the Request link, and then the Request button. To continue, click Refresh Services List.

If you would like to check out an item from the open stacks, take it to the Circulation Desk. If you would like to request an item listed as ‘On loan,’ with a Policy of ‘Not loanable,’ notify Circulation by either going to the Circulation Desk or emailing centercirc@getty.edu .

To search call numbers, do not use spaces or punctuation, e.g., in order to search for the item with the call number HD9570.G4 A79 2003, type HD9570G4A792003

To search auction sale catalogs, enter the sale date as YYYYMMDD, e.g., 19640207 for February 7, 1964. To find all of the sales in a given month, truncate the date using an asterisk, e.g., 196402* for sales held in February 1964.

If you are having display or request issues, try another browser and use the most recent release.

Updates regarding the new library system

By now perhaps you have had an opportunity to search the new system, known generically as “Primo.” Currently there is a problem where the searcher receives an unexpected error message. We are working on a solution, but in the meantime, click the Clear Search link in the upper right, directly adjacent to the search box. Then repeat your search.

A reminder that, per our July 18 post, the circulation functions are not available until Wednesday morning, July 24, as we address implementation bugs. Email requests will be delayed until July 24, as there will be no retrieval or delivery of materials until then.

Announcing the New GRI Library System

The GRI’s new library systems are almost live! This will affect how library users find and access library materials. The new discovery system (http://primo.getty.edu) incorporates and enhances the current Research Library Catalog. It retrieves results from books, journals, archives, audiovisual materials, and digital content in the Research Institute’s collections as well as from subscription e-journals and databases

Please read this entire message and make note of vital dates and information:

Beginning June 26:

Learn more and provide important feedback on the new discovery system. Library Staff will conduct 30-minute introductory sessions that will also serve as informal focus groups.

Beginning July 10:

The former Research Library Catalog will no longer be available. The new discovery system will be the main way to search for materials in the Research Institute’s collections. The online request function will not be available until July 22.

July 10-21:

The library’s online circulation system will be down as the cutover from the old system to the new occurs. The Request and Self-Checkout functions will NOT be available during this time. Please plan your library needs in light of this scheduled downtime by requesting materials in advance according to the following schedule:

Online requests for materials needed during the downtime must be completed before 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 9.

Requests for materials can be submitted during the downtime by sending email to centercirc@getty.edu with the author, title, and ID or Call Number of the item you need.

Open stack materials must be checked out at the Circulation Desk during the downtime.

Beginning July 22:

Library users can request materials online through the new system.
